The Black Mesa Community School was designed by George Claflen as a Senior Architect with Leon Shirley of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This building incorporates the traditional design principles used by the Navajo for centuries. The project involved intensive work with isolated Navajo communities, with all decisions made at meetings conducted in the Navajo language.
